Vol. 323 No. 3

Written Answers . - Civil and Commercial Judgements .

343.

asked the Minister for Justice when legislation will be introduced in the Dáil to comply with this country's obligations under the EEC Convention on the jurisdiction and the enforcement of civil and commercial judgments so as to make the terms of the convention part of Irish domestic law; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

: The legislation necessary to enable this country to ratify the Convention of Accession of the three new member states to the 1968 convention on jurisdiction and enforcement of judgments in civil and commercial matters and to the protocol on its interpretation by the European Court of Justice will be prepared when other urgent domestic legislation has been disposed of. I should point out that even when the legislation has been enacted and the convention ratified the convention will not enter into force here unless and until it has been ratified by all of the original six member states.
