Vol. 336 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin Schools.

946.

Mr. Bruton

asked the Minister for Education whether he will designate Bonnybrook boys national school, Dublin as a priority area for the purposes of pupil-teacher ratios and special classes for the year 1982-83.

I am not satisfied that the appropriate method of dealing with the educational problems of disadvantaged areas would be to select individual schools, irrespective of their location, for consideration other than in accordance with the provisions of the rules for national schools. The question of designating Bonnybrook national school for a particualar purpose as set out in the question from the Deputy does not arise.

947.

asked the Minister for Education when the present difficulties concerning vacant possession of the site planned for Beaumont boys secondary school, Dublin will be resolved; and when construction work will commence.

The question of acquiring sites for secondary schools is a matter for the conductors of the school concerned. My Department have approved, in principle, a proposal by the Carmelite Order to establish a boy's secondary school in Beaumont and I understand that the Order have recently reached agreement with another Government Department regarding the price to be paid for a particular site in the area.

Architectural planning of the new school will be undertaken when agreement is reached regarding the range and type of accommodation to be provided. My Department awaits a response from the Order in relation to specific proposals made in this connection.
