asked the Minister for the Environment when work will commence on the proposed Ballybeg-Dromulton-Coolnagerah group water scheme in County Kerry in respect of which local contributions were collected over three years ago; and if he will make a statement on the matter, in view of the importance of this scheme to the economy of the area and of the fact that the Kerry Co-operative creameries are prepared to give a water supply to the council.

State grants amounting to £10,700 have been allocated to the Ballybeg-Currow group water scheme and £7,020 has been paid. The scheme is almost complete, the pipes have been laid and the reservoir constructed.
The plans for the scheme were approved on the basis that Kerry County Council would make a water supply available to the group from Castleisland regional scheme. Due to current demands being made on the regional water scheme the council would find it difficult to supply the Ballybeg scheme. Accordingly, negotiations were entered into between the group, Kerry County Council and Kerry Co-operative creameries to obtain an alternative supply. It is understood that these negotiations have not yet reached a satisfactory conclusion. Until a supply is available to the group the scheme cannot be completed.

asked the Minister for the Environment if he will arrange with Killarney UDC to improve the water supply in Pinewood Estate, Killarney, County Kerry, in the Upper Lewis Road area where the pressure is very low and at the location of a company (details supplied) where sixty persons are employed and which is very often without water and if he will make a statement on this matter.
I understand that the water supply in Pinewood Estate, in the Upper Lewis Road area and at Ross Products Ltd., Killarney will be improved in the near future when the existing Killarney distribution system is connected to the new supply main to Killarney, constructed under contract 1 of the central Kerry regional water supply scheme.
