Vol. 343 No. 10

Written Answers. - Mallow (Cork) Schools.

843.

asked the Minister for Education the up-to-date position regarding the building of a new vocational school at Mallow, County Cork; and when work will commence.

Discussions are ongoing between the County Cork Vocational Education Committee and the Department regarding the size of the site and the numbers to be catered for in the proposed new vocational school at Mallow. When these questions have been resolved the planning of the project will commence. It is not possible at this early stage to say when construction will commence.

844.

asked the Minister for Education when an extension of five classrooms will be carried out to Mallow convent secondary school, County Cork, as this is an urgent matter, due to the increasing numbers of pupils attending this school; and the reason for the delay in this case.

Pending the receipt of a site investigation report from the manager and the completion of the remaining stages of the planning process, I am not in a position to say when the extension to the Convent Secondary School, Mallow will be carried out. I am not aware of any undue delay in processing the project.

845.

asked the Minister for Education when an extension to Mallow Patrician academy post primary school, County Cork, will be carried out as this is an urgent matter because of the increasing number of pupils attending the school; and the reason for the delay in this case.

I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Question No. 1144 of 19 April 1983. Following a meeting on 2 May last with the manager and his consultants, the physical planning of the extension to the Patrician Boys Secondary School was initiated.
