Vol. 344 No. 3

Written Answers. - County Cork Land Sale.

883.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that a person (details supplied) in County Cork who owes £37,000 to the Agricultural Credit Corporation is very anxious to sell 70 acres of mountain land to the Department of Fisheries and Forestry but Land Commission difficulties are holding up the sale; and if he will expedite the sale.

The bog in question was purchased by the Land Commission in 1946 for the purpose of providing turbary in the area. They then developed the bog and sold rights to cut turf on it to 76 local applicants. The fee-simple was re-allotted for a nominal sum to the former co-owners, subject to these rights. If the person referred to now wishes to clear the land of these turbary rights it is a matter for arrangement between himself and the owners; the Land Commission have no powers to intervene.
