asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs the proposals for the utilisation of the new building belonging to his Department at Barrack Lane, New Ross, County Wexford, as it has been empty for two-and-a-half years; and the purpose for which it is now being used.
Written Answers. - County Wexford PO Building.

The new building was provided to cater for long term telecommunications development which was envisaged at that time would be by means of cross-bar exchange equipment. However, it is now planned that the next stage of development at New Ross will be by means of the digital technology currently being introduced in the national network. As digital exchange equipment requires considerably less space than the cross-bar type, it is necessary to review the future accommodation requirements for exchange equipment.
At present the building is used by maintenance and construction staff and for storage of equipment. The longer term use of the accommodation is under review.
