Vol. 346 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Commission on Restrictive Practices.

13.

asked the Minister for Trade, Commerce and Tourism when he proposes to publish the report of the Commission on Restrictive Practices into the effects of competition of the restrictions of conveyancing and restrictions on advertising by solicitors.

I would point out to the Deputy that there is no statutory requirements to publish the report of any inquiry carried out by the Restrictive Practices Commission under the Restrictive Practices Act, 1972. However, it has been the custom in the past to publish such reports and I would hope to publish the report to which the Deputy refers shortly.

Could the Minister inform the House when the report was submitted to his Department?

In April of 1982.

Would the Minister agree that the whole question of legal conveyancing is unnecessarily complex? Has the Minister approached the Department of Justice with a view to simplifying the whole procedure, which is his role?

I am sure that the Deputy would agree that it would not be appropriate for me to anticipate consideration of the report by the Government.
