Vol. 346 No. 2

Written Answers. - Redundancy Payments.

315.

asked the Minister for Finance if redundancy will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Offaly by the Office of Public Works before Christmas.

The person named in the question has been employed by the Commissioners of Public Works since 1968 as a seasonal worker on the summer maintenance of the Brosna catchment drainage scheme. Due to restricted finances, he received only ten weeks' work in 1982 and eight weeks' work in the current year. As the breaks in employment between the 1981 and 1982 seasons and the 1982 and 1983 seasons each exceeded 26 consecutive weeks, continuity of employment for the purposes of the Redundancy Payments Acts, has been broken. In the circumstances, the person named in the question does not now have the minimum of two years' continuous service to qualify for redundancy payments under those Acts.

The person named in the question has, however, the right of appeal to the Employment Appeals Tribunal. He may do so on Form R.P. 51A which may be obtained from the Department of Labour, the local employment exchange or office or the local office of the National Manpower Service.
