Vol. 346 No. 2

Written Answers. - Garda New Offices.

316.

asked the Minister for Finance the cost of his Department in 1983 of the new Garda offices at Harcourt Street, Dublin 2; the reasons for the delay in taking up this accommodation; and when he expects the premises to be occupied.

The cost including rent, in 1983 of the new Dublin Metropolitan Area Garda Headquarters at Harcourt Square, Harcourt Street, is estimated at £2.06 million.

There has been no avoidable delay in taking up the accommodation. An extensive scheme of works was called for to render the premises, most of which were rented as shell buildings, suitable for the proposed user. This scheme was drawn up based on detailed requirements which had to be established. Of necessity these operations and the execution of works took time. Works are still continuing.

Approximately half of the complex has been occupied and occupation of the remainder is expected to be completed by mid-1984.
