Vol. 346 No. 5

Written Answers. - Employment Appeals Tribunal Cost.

292.

asked the Minister for Labour the total cost per annum of running the Employment Appeals Tribunal in relation to (a) wages and expenses, (b) the total number of appeals heard during the year ended 31 December 1982 and (c) the total cost for the year 1982.

The cost of operating the Employment Appeals Tribunal in the year ended 31 December 1982 was £333,236. This consisted of £261,040 for members' fees and tribunal secretariat staff salaries, overtime, PRSI and superannuation contributions, £59,371 for travelling and subsistence and £12,825 for accommodation. These costs do not include cost of telephone, postal and messenger services, heat and electricity as the tribunal is housed in my Department's premises at Davitt House and the separate cost of these items is not available.

In the year ended 31 December 1982 a total of 2,909 claims and appeals was heard by the tribunal.
