asked the Minister for Education the reason the course in visual education which is run by the National College of Art, Thomas Street, Dublin, is not eligible for grant assistance through the VEC, although similar courses in Dún Laoghaire and Limerick are grant-aided.

It is presumed that the Deputy is referring to the one year foundation year or pre-diploma year course in the National College of Art and Design, Dublin. This one year course is not recognised for VEC scholarship purposes. To be eligible for recognition for VEC scholarship purposes courses must be, inter alia, of at least two years full-time duration.
The NCAD also conducts a four year degree course in art and visual education and VEC scholarships are tenable for the fourth year of this course in the case of eligible students who have attained an NCEA national diploma.
