asked the Minister for Transport the names of those persons (a) not reappointed and (b) dismissed by the Government from State and semi-State boards under the aegis of his Department since February 1983.
The information requested by the Deputy is as follows: (a) Non-reappointments to boards of State and semi-State bodies under the aegis of the Department of Transport.
Córas Iompair Éireann — The appointment of Mr. H. L. McKee expired on 31 August 1983, and it is intended that the incoming chairman, Mr. Paul Conlon, should fill this vacancy from 1 January 1984.
The appointment of Mr. J. F. Higgins expired on 30 November 1983. This vacancy and the vacancy which will arise on 1 January 1984, following the retirement of the present chairman, Dr. Liam St. J. Devlin, will be filled early in the New Year.
Mr. R. O'Donovan, a worker director did not stand for re-election when elections were held in October 1983 in accordance with the Worker Participation (State Enterprises) Act, 1977 and retired from the board on the expiry of his term on 30 November 1983.
Appointments of the chairman and ordinary members of the board of CIE are made by the Government. Worker members are appointed by the Taoiseach following their election.
Irish Shipping Ltd: Mr. F. Reihill and Mr. H. McMahon, who retired from their directorship at the AGM of the company in June 1983 in accordance with the memorandum and articles of association of the company, were not reappointed to the board.
Appointments to the board of Irish Shipping Limited are made by the Minister for Finance after consultation with the Minister for Transport.
(b) Dismissals from State or semi-State bodies under the aegis of the Department of Transport: Nil.
