Vol. 346 No. 10

Written Answers. - Cross-Border Economic Development.

196.

asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs if the steering committee of officials from North and South involved in the cross-Border economic development are still meeting; the progress to date; and the number of meetings held during 1983.

The Steering Committee of the Anglo-Irish Intergovernmental Council was established in January 1982 and continues to function. The Deputy will wish to know that they met on two occasions during 1983. The steering committee supervise the work of the co-ordinating committee of officials which has responsibility for the practical co-ordination of economic co-operation. The co-ordinating committee has met on three occasions in 1983. With regard to the progress achieved to date in cross-Border economic development, I would refer the Deputy to paragraph 8 of the Steering Committee's Joint report and to the Review of Activity since November 1981 on the Anglo-Irish Joint Studies, both of which have been laid before both Houses of the Oireachtas.
