1. The Government announced on 21 July 1983 that a pilot job-sharing scheme would be introduced in the Civil Service. 2. A preliminary survey carried out shortly afterwards to ascertain the level of interest in a scheme of job-sharing among serving officials showed that approximately 400 civil servants were interested in such a scheme. 3. The details of a pilot scheme which will be operated on a voluntary basis are at present being discussed with staff representatives. It is expected that these discussions will be concluded shortly.
