Vol. 348 No. 11

Written Answers. - Mature Student.

533.

asked the Minister for Education the reason it is not possible to facilitate a mature student (details supplied) who has been preparing for some time to sit the 1984 leaving certificate Examination Higher Course Maths Paper as his future depends so much on the result of this.

The published regulations state that the latest date for receipt of applications to sit the leaving certificate examination is 1 December but that late applications may be accepted up to 2 February on payment of a late fee. An application made after 2 February may be expected only in very exceptional circumstances. The student in question applied on 16 February 1984 and his application was rejected. He appealed this decision by letter dated 28 February 1984 and, because of the exceptional nature of the case outlined in that letter, his application was accepted. He was informed accordingly on 6 March.
