Vol. 350 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Written Answers. - Income Tax Refunds.

570.

asked the Minister for Finance when the tax rebate applied for in January 1983 will be paid to a person (details supplied) in County Kilkenny.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the inspector of taxes has no record of receipt in January 1983 of a claim from the taxpayer for repayment of tax. Since June 1983 there has been correspondence between the taxpayer and the inspector. The latest letter from the inspector to the taxpayer was issued on 2 September 1983. It requested the taxpayer to state the full name and address of his last employer and that employer's serial number. As there has been no response from the taxpayer, the inspector is unable to make further progress in processing the claim.

571.

asked the Minister for Finance the reason income tax for the years 1982-1983 has not been refunded to a person (details supplied) in County Carlow; and the reason for the long delay in having this claim processed.

The Revenue Commissioners have advised me that the inspector of taxes is unable to carry out a final review of the taxpayer's liability for the year 1982-83 until the taxpayer responds to a request by the inspector for full details of the taxpayer's earnings and employment position (including employment abroad) for that year.

When the inspector is satisfied concerning the taxpayer's employment position in respect of the period March 1981 to June 1982, the liability for the year 1982-83 will be reviewed and, if it is found that any tax has been overdeducted, it will be refunded.
