Vol. 350 No. 2

Written Answers. - Grant Payments.

576.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the reason for the decrease in a grant paid to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

Grant aid at the "Other High" rate is confined to a maximum period of six years in that category. As the work in this case was not completed within that period, the applicant is entitled to payment at the lower rate only.

577.

asked the Minister for Agriculture the total number of applications under the farm modernisation scheme in County Galway which have been refused because of the fact that work had commenced prior to inception of the new scheme; and the total number of applications which were refused in County Galway due to the fact that written approval had not been issued before the cancellation of the old scheme.

A total of 235 applications from farmers in County Galway for grant aid under the farm modernisation scheme were not processed for approval following the modifications to the scheme which came into effect on 10 February 1983.

Following the introduction of the revised scheme in January 1984, 20 applications for grant aid were rejected in full or in part because work had commenced prior to the initial inspection by a farm development service officer.

As the Deputy will appreciate, there may be some overlap between the 235 and 20 cases referred to.

578.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when a headage payment will be made to a person (details supplied) in County Galway.

The person named has been paid his cattle headage grant already.
