asked the Minister for Health in respect of the following (a) the aluminium windows in the main contract in the new general hospital in Tralee, County Kerry and (b) the aluminium louvres in the boiler house also in the new general hospital, if there was at least three tenders invited for (a) and (b); if so, if he will give the name of the contractor which received approval; and the final amount of the approved contract.

It is proposed to take Questions No. 551 to 554, inclusive, together.

The building client, the Southern Health Board, and their architectural consultants furnished the following information on the sub-contracts for the supply of aluminium windows and louvres at Tralee General Hospital.

Aluminium Windows: (a) Number of tenders, three; (b) Prices tendered, £132,557.00—Messrs. Craftmasters Ltd.; £143,317.00—Messrs. Crittall McKinney Limited; £149,475.13—Rucon Ltd.

The lowest tender was withdrawn by the tendering contractor as they were unable to meet the requirements of the installation programme and that of the main contractor. The contract was then awarded to Messrs Rucon Ltd. who were considered by the consultant architects as being the only tender capable of giving the required performance.

Aluminium Louvres to Boiler House: (a) Number of tenders sought, three— two received; (b) Prices tendered, (i) £17,110.60 by Messrs. Rucon Ltd.; (ii) £24,002 by Messrs. F. O'Connell Aluminium Ltd.

The lower tender of £17,110.60 was accepted.

It is not possible at this time to provide the final costs for these contracts as the final account for the Tralee General Hospital contract has been referred back for further examination by the Southern Health Board.
