: Two companies assisted by the IDA are engaged in pharmacological research involving tests on volunteers: The Institute of Clinical Pharmacology located at James's Street, Dublin 8 and Elan Corporation located at Athlone, County Westmeath.
The National Drugs Advisory Board monitor the ethical standards of these companies and the IDA consult the board before approving grant assistance. Both companies have appointed independent committees with highly qualified representatives of the medical and pharmaceutical professions to approve all research programmes before they are undertaken.
