Vol. 354 No. 10

Written Answers. - Tax-Free Allowances.

657.

asked the Minister for Finance the average length of time it takes his Department to regularise tax-free allowances in the case of a person re-entering employment; and if he will accept that where the persons RSI number is supplied, it should be possible to have the tax-free allowance regularised without any undue delay.

I have been advised by the Revenue Commissioners that the length of time required for a certificate of tax-free allowances to be issued in the case of an employee re-entering employment would depend entirely on the circumstances of the individual case. Where all the instructions contained in Chapter 10 of the Employer's Guide to PAYE are followed there should be no appreciable delay in issuing the required certificate. However, delays could arise where, for example, the taxpayer fails to provide all the information required by the inspector of taxes. If the Deputy has any particular case in mind and supplies all the relevant details, I will have the matter investigated.
