Vol. 361 No. 11

Written Answers. - Kenmare (Kerry) Factory.

43.

asked the Minister for Industry, Trade, Commerce and Tourism the present position regarding Kenmare Products Limited, Kenmare, County Kerry; when the IDA grant aided machines will be returned from Germany; who owns the grounds on which the factory is built; and the conditions under which the present premises and plant are held by the company.

I am informed by the Industrial Development Authority that a receiver was appointed to Kenmare Products Limited on 4 November 1985 and that efforts are being made by him to sell the company as a going concern. I understand that, under a restructuring plan introduced by the company, grant aided machinery, which had earlier been sent to Germany for modification, was not considered suitable for the restructured Irish plant and, accordingly, has not been returned. However, alternative machinery, which was not grant aided, was acquired from the German parent for the restructured Kenmare plant.

IDA is seeking the recovery of grants paid to the company for which it is contingently liable, including grants paid on the machinery sent to Germany. The land, on which the factory is built, is owned by the company. Any request for information on the conditions under which the premises and plant are held by the company would be a matter for the receiver.
