Vol. 372 No. 1

Written Answers. - Portlaw (Waterford) School.

612.

asked the Minister for Education when work will commence on the new boys' school for Portlaw, County Waterford.

My Department has completed its examination of the tenders for the proposed new boys' school for Portlaw, County Waterford. Because, however, of the extent to which my Department's 1987 allocation of capital for the national schools building programme had already been committed prior to my assuming office, I am not in a position at this stage to say when the placing of a contract for the work may be authorised and the work begun. I will, however, be keeping under close review the rate of expenditure on schools under construction and if the possibility emerges within the current financial year of releasing the project in question to contract the required authorisation will be given subject as usual to compliance with the regulations and procedures covering national schools building grants.
