Vol. 393 No. 9

Written Answers. - Foynes (Limerick) Harbour.

21.

asked the Minister for the Marine if he has committed finance for development works at Foynes harbour, County Limerick for 1990; and the amount of finance which will be made available for the proposed work.

29.

asked the Minister for the Marine if finance has been made available under the 1990 Estimates to provide funding towards the development planned for Foynes harbour, County Limerick; and, if so, the amount of finance available.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 21 and 29 together. The public capital programme envisages harbour investment expenditure of £12.2 million in 1990. This amount includes expenditure proposed by Foynes Harbour Trustees on the erection of mooring dolphins and shore connections and new cargo handling equipment. The Foynes harbour improvements have been included in the National Development Plan 1989-1993 but the actual aid which will be provided cannot be decided until the peripherality programme is approved by the EC. This approval is expected before the end of December 1989 and it is hoped to provide some EC aid for the Foynes developments in 1990.

It should be noted that EC aid will be provided through the public capital programme and not through the Estimates.
