Vol. 394 No. 1

Written Answers. - Accident and Emergency Service.

188.

asked the Minister for Health the progress, if any, which has been made with the establishment of general practices in some inner city hospitals to ensure that general practitioners are on call after hours.

The establishment of general practices in some inner city hospitals has not been proposed. Preliminary consideration is, however, being given to the structured involvement of general practitioners in close association with hospitals, in coping with the demands on the accident and emergency service. No decisions will be made until the results of the detailed survey, being conducted by the Eastern Health Board into the operation of the accident and emergency service, are available.
