Vol. 395 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tenders for Building Schools.

Ivan Yates

Ceist:

192 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Education when construction will commence on the new primary school (details supplied) in County Wexford; and the present position in relation to this project.

Tenders for the provision of the new building for the national school referred to by the Deputy are being examined in my Department and this examination will be completed at the earliest possible date. The question of the placing of the contract will then arise for consideration and I will give the matter my prompt attention at that point. I am not in a position to say precisely, at this stage, when building works will commence.

Louis J. Belton

Ceist:

193 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Education when she will invite tenders for Keenagh national school, County Longford; and if a general purpose room will be included in this project.

I have approved the provision of a new school building at Keenagh national school, County Longford, containing four class-rooms, a staffroom, a library-medical room and various stores. A ball court, a bus layby and car parking facilities will also be provided. In accordance with the policies which have been in place for the primary school's building programme since 1987 priority must be given to essential facilities and the provision of a general purposes room deferred until the financial circumstances permit. This has been fully discussed with the Keenagh national school authorities who understand the Department's position.

Planning permission for the project was forwarded by the school authorities last month and the preparation of tender documents is in hands. These will be completed at the earliest possible date. The question of the invitation of tenders will then arise and I will give the matter my prompt attention at that point.

Louis J. Belton

Ceist:

194 Mr. Belton asked the Minister for Education when tenders will be invited for Ballinamuck national school, County Longford.

Working drawings for the proposed improvements scheme for Ballinamuck national school, County Longford, have recently been forwarded to my Department by the school authorities and are being examined. I understand that the specification for the works is nearing completion. When the complete tender documents have been approved, I will be in a position to authorise the invitation of tenders for the project.

It is not possible to say, at this point, precisely when tenders will be invited but I will ensure that there is no avoidable delay in my Department in the matter.
