Vol. 395 No. 6

Written Answers. - Bovine Eradication Schemes.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

137 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will outline the progress he expects to be made in the eradication of disease among cattle in 1990; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I am assuming the Deputy is referring to the bovine TB and brucellosis eradication schemes. I am informed by the director of ERAD that the programme proposed by ERAD for 1990 entails a range of measures designed to reduce all sources of residual infection of TB in the national herd.

With regard to brucellosis the director informs me that in a drive to bring about the final eradication of that disease, he is arranging for a full blood monitor of the national herd to be carried out this year. ERAD will publish details of its proposed strategy for 1990 in the near future.
