Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dundalk, Louth, Road Project.

Brendan McGahon

Ceist:

28 Mr. McGahon asked the Minister for the Environment the allocation which has been made for the provision of phases three and four of the Dundalk inner relief road, County Louth; and when it is expected to start.

The 1990 road grants which I have notified to Dundalk Urban District Council include a special grant of £100,000 to meet preliminary costs arising this year on phases three and four of the Dundalk inner relief road.

On 19 February 1990 my Department approved in principle the local authority's proposals in relation to the route for the scheme without prejudice to the outcome of any statutory procedures that may arise.

It is now a matter for the local authority to proceed with the detailed planning and property acquisition for the project. At this stage, I am not in a position to indicate the likely date for the commencement of construction.
