Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Sanitary Services.

Ruairí Quinn

Ceist:

40 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for the Environment the number of technical staff in his Department handling sanitary services; the number of applications from local authorities for the provision of secondary and tertiary treatment sewerage systems within their area; the approximate capital cost of such applications; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are currently 18 inspectors assigned to the sanitary services section of my Department, including the group schemes subsection.

Contract documents for 37 major sewerage schemes which will provide secondary or tertiary treatment facilities, and estimated to cost approximately £52 million are at present under consideration in my Department. A further 12 schemes, valued at approximately £14 million are at earlier planning stages in my Department.
