Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Rent Schemes.

Michael Bell

Ceist:

37 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment if he will consider a national differential rent scheme to replace the existing schemes which vary from county to county; if he will consider an urgent meeting with the County Managers Association to discuss the serious anomalies in the present scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Under existing arrangements, the determination of rents is, as part of their responsibilities to manage their housing estates, a matter for individual local authorities. I have no proposals at present to alter these arrangements and I do not consider that a special meeting as suggested by the Deputy is necessary.
