Vol. 396 No. 4

Written Answers. - Planning Applications.

Austin Currie

Ceist:

55 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the fact that many people have no knowledge of planning applications which affect them until it is too late for them to do anything about it; if he will give consideration to the publication, by the planning authorities, of lists of planning applications on a monthly basis in appropriate local newspapers; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Planning regulations require a person intending to apply for planning permission to give public notice of the proposed application, by way of a site or newspaper notice. In addition, planning authorities must prepare and put on display in their offices a weekly list of planning applications received. Where a planning authority so decide, this list may also be displayed at other locations, be published in a newspaper circulating in the authority's area or be made available to any body, group or person likely to be interested.

While I am not aware of particular difficulties concerning existing provisions as to notice of planning applications, the matter will be considered in the course of the review of planning regulations which is currently in progress in my Department.
