88 Mr. Leonard asked the Minister for Education if she proposes to provide a technical skills training centre in the Cavan/Monaghan area, as recommended in the national draft report for the north-west sub-region in the National Development Plan 1989-1993.
I have no plans at present for the provision of an additional technical skills training centre in the Cavan/ Monaghan area. Training in technical and business skills for the north-west sub-region is available through the provision of vocational preparation and training programmes in second-level schools and colleges and through national diploma and certificate courses in the Regional Technical Colleges in Letterkenny, Sligo, Athlone and Dundalk. Cavan VEC is also providing the first year of the national certificate in business studies on a pilot basis, linked with Athlone RTC.
