Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Medical Card Eligibility.

Gerry Reynolds

Ceist:

175 Mr. G. Reynolds asked the Minister for Health if a person aged between 18 and 25 and in receipt of a reduced rate of unemployment assistance can be classified as an adult dependant of their parents and refused a medical card in his or her own right because the parents themselves are not holders of a current medical card.

The determination of eligibility in any particular case is a matter for the chief executive officer of the appropriate health board. I understand that the question of whether persons in the category referred to by the Deputy should be regarded as dependants of their parents is determined by an assessment of the circumstances of each case.
