Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - No Smoking Areas.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

176 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health whether, in making orders for no smoking areas, he has considered designating portions of bingo halls as no smoking; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Deputy will be aware that prior to preparing these regulations I consulted the widest possible cross section of representative and interested groups with a view to introducing provisions which would be based on consensus and for which there would be a large measure of public support. I am confident that the regulations due to be implemented on 1 May 1990 reflect that consensus.

I will, of course, be reviewing the effectiveness of these regulations on an on-going basis with a view to building on them should the need or the demand arise.
