43 Mr. Kavanagh asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs , in the context of the Irish Presidency of the EC, if the Irish Government will condemn the political situation in Singapore where major political opposition figures have been indiscriminately detained without trial for numerous years; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Ireland, like its partners in the Twelve, is concerned at the fact that certain persons have been detained in Singapore without trial for lengthy periods. The Singapore authorities are fully aware of our concerns on this matter.
