Vol. 396 No. 9

Written Answers. - Carriage Office Operations.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

132 Mr. Byrne asked the Minister for Justice if he will give details of the increase in the work-load of the public service vehicle inspectorate in the carriage office from 1960 to date; and the plans he has for the future of the inspectorate in light of the reduction of staff there.

The Garda authorities advise me that they do not have statistics in regard to the workload of the carriage office over the period referred to by the Deputy.

The information sought by the Deputy could only be obtained by the expenditure of a disproportionate amount of staff time and resources.

As indicated in my reply to Questions Nos. 120 and 121 on today's Order Paper, an increase in the number of members assigned to the carriage office is being considered by the Garda authorities.
