Vol. 397 No. 2

Written Answers. - County Meath Tower.

Noel Dempsey

Ceist:

66 Mr. Dempsey asked the Minister for Finance if the Office of Public Works will undertake work on the Maiden's Tower at Mornington, County Meath; and, if not, if it will agree to allow a FÁS scheme to undertake work to preserve the tower.

The Maiden's Tower at Mornington, County Meath, is neither in the ownership nor in the guardianship of the Commissioners of Public Works. As such the commissioners would be precluded under the National Monuments Acts from undertaking works here.

However, I would have no objection in principle to a FÁS scheme being initiated at the site, subject to appropriate independent architectural supervision.
