Written Answers. - Meat Exports to Japan.
The development of the Irish beef exports to Japan is restricted by the lack of EC refunds and a complicated import quota system. CBF promotional activities in Japan accordingly concentrates on increasing exports of pigmeat and they include provision of market information to Irish industry, production of a Japanese video and brochure and regular meetings with the Japanese trade. CBF have launched a marketing campaign to attract a high level Japanese delegation to the 12 CBF International Meat Symposium in Killarney in May. These activities will assist direct promotion of Irish beef should trading conditions improve.
