Vol. 398 No. 10

Written Answers. - County Donegal School Transport.

Tomás MacGiolla

Ceist:

219 Tomás Mac Giolla asked the Minister for Education if she will approve free school transport for children from Straleel/Bogagh areas of County Donegal to Carrick national school, County Donegal, in view of the fact that a commitment was given to the parents in this area when Straleel national school was closed, that transport would be provided to Carrick national school.

In accordance with the terms of the primary school transport scheme, a minimum of seven children is required to establish and retain a school transport service from a closed school area to the school of amalgamation.

In this case, the number of children from the Straleel closed school area availing of school transport to Carrick national school fell to six in the Easter term of this year. One of these children is due to complete his primary education this summer.

Unless the circumstances change, it will not be open to my Department to continue this school transport service after the summer term 1990.
