Vol. 399 No. 1

Written Answers. - Celbridge (Kildare) School Enrolment Policy.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

96 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education if the directive by her Department that a joint enrolment policy should operate between the various schools in Celbridge, County Kildare was discussed by the boards of management of the various schools concerned; if a decision was taken by one or all of the schools involved; if she will indicate the nature of the decision in each case; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

97 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Education, having regard to the reply to Parliamentary Questions Nos. 71 and 72 of 10 May, 1990, when her Department directed that a joint enrolment policy should operate between the schools in Celbridge town and Scoil Mochua; if regard was had to the fact that some parents whose children were already attending one or other of the schools concerned might not gain admission for subsequent children; the total number of children now unable to gain admission to Scoil Mochua, despite the fact that members of the same family are already attending there; if she will re-evaluate the situation, with a view to devising a means whereby the major difficulties might be resolved; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 96 and 97 together.

The direction that schools in Celbridge should operate a joint enrolment policy was given in 1987.

The position regarding the other points in the questions is covered in previous written replies to Questions Nos. 50,115, 71 and 72 on 8 and 14 March and 10 May, respectively.
