Vol. 399 No. 3

Written Answers. - Greyhound Exports.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Ceist:

84 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if Bord na gCon has carried out an investigation recently into the export of greyhounds to Spain; when this investigation was carried out; and if the investigation covered the following areas (1) methods of transportation to Spain from Ireland, (2) licensing of greyhound tracks and proper supervision of same by veterinary personnel and (3) kennelling of greyhounds in Spain; if proper air-conditioning systems are in place in order to combat the extreme heat of the Spanish climate; and when the findings of this investigation will be made public.

Michael Joe Cosgrave

Ceist:

85 Mr. Cosgrave asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if, in view of reports that Irish greyhounds exported to Spain by Bord na gCon end up in animal experiment laboratories, he will ban the export of greyhounds to Spain.

I propose to take Questions Nos. 84 and 85 together. The position outlined in my reply of 13 March 1990 to similar questions from the Deputy remains the same.
