Vol. 399 No. 8

Written Answers. - Local Contributions to Primary Schools.

Jimmy Deenihan

Ceist:

124 Mr. Deenihan asked the Minister for Education if she will outline the local contribution requirement per child for primary schools and the total contribution collected nationally.

A local contribution towards school running costs, equivalent to at least 25 per cent of the capitation grant, must be lodged annually to each school's bank account. This money may not be raised by means of a levy or other compulsory charge on the parents of children attending the school. The total minimum contribution nationally is approximately £3,860,000 in 1990.
