Vol. 402 No. 5

Written Answers. - Fish Farms.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

82 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine if he will give an assurance that fish farms are complying with all licence regulations; and if there is ongoing monitoring to ascertain the pollution, if any, from chemicals used on fish farms.

The results to date of my Department's inspection programme, under which all fish farms are being checked nationwide, indicate that there is compliance by fish farmers which licence conditions.

Reporting requirements relating to chemical usage and water quality monitoring programmes are in place for both freshwater and marine sites under which the environmental impact of fish farming activity can be assessed.
