Vol. 403 No. 1

Written Answers. - Donegal Garda Stations.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

155 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline the Garda stations in County Donegal which are in urgent need of repair; if there are plans to provide new stations; and when work will commence on such new stations.

As Minister for Justice, I am most anxious to ensure that, within the financial resources available, all Garda stations, including those in County Donegal are brought up to modern standards as soon as practicable. Maintenance work has been carried out on a total of 25 Garda stations in County Donegal in this year alone, and maintenance work will continue to be undertaken where the need is identified and the budgetary situation permits. Major improvement schemes are planned for Glenties and Buncrana Garda stations and it is hoped that work will commence on both of these schemes in 1991.

In 1989, a new divisional headquarters was built in Letterkenny and plans are being prepared for a new district headquarters at Milford. New stations are also planned for Doochary, Falcarragh, Killybegs, Muff and Ramelton. However, it is not possible to indicate, at this stage, when work will commence on these projects.
