Ceist:74 Mr. Yates asked the Minister for Justice if he has any proposals to decriminalise suicide; and if he will make a statement on the matter.
I propose to take Questions Nos. 64 and 74 together.
The question of abolishing the offence of suicide is being examined at present. That examination is proceeding as quickly as other urgent demands on my Department's resources permit and any legislative proposals I may bring forward to amend the law relating to suicide will be announced in the normal way in due course.
