Vol. 409 No. 6

Written Answers. - Rural Policing Arrangements.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

118 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Justice if he will confirm, on the matter of proposed changes in rural policing, that no new scheme of arrangements will be introduced without consultation with Garda staff associations and local communities including community alert associations; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The Garda authorities engaged in full consultation with the Garda representative associations before putting their proposals on rural policing to me. Details of what is proposed will, naturally, be made public as soon as the plans have been finalised and at that stage I shall certainly be glad to give full consideration to any views that may be conveyed to me by interested parties, including those referred to by the Deputy.
