Vol. 410 No. 6

Written Answers. - Japanese Car Imports.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

31 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, under the free circulation provisions of EC Directives on vehicle type approval, owners of imported second-hand cars from Japan who wish to take their cars to other EC member states on business or vacation, are permitted to enjoy free circulation or if they can be prevented from temporarily importing their cars because they have not been approved either to European type approval specifications or to the national type approval standard of a particular member state.

At present, owners of Irish registered cars, whether new or second-hand, are free to take their vehicles to other member states of the European Community on a temporary basis on vacation or on business.
