Vol. 411 No. 7

Written Answers. - EC Proposals on Gambling.

Jim O'Keeffe

Ceist:

144 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Justice if he will outline his views on the proposals of the EC Commission on gambling.

I am informed by the Permanent Representation of Ireland to the European Communities that the EC Commission has not formulated any proposals in relation to gambling. I am further informed that the Commission has recently published a consultants' report on "Gambling in the Single Market", which is limited to a factual survey and analysis of the existing situation in the member states and does not reflect any Commission position. On the basis of the report, the Commission has decided to organise hearings towards the end of 1991 with all parties involved. When these hearing are over, the Commission will take a position on whether and how to integrate the gambling sector into the 1993 concept.
