Vol. 412 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coast Protection.

Gerry O'Sullivan

Ceist:

23 Mr. G. O'Sullivan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will establish a national coast protection authority to take the burden of coast protection from local authorities; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I have no plans, at present, to set up an authority along the lines proposed by the Deputy but I am aware that a National Coastal Erosion Committee, comprising county engineers, are examining the matter at present. I look forward to receiving their report.

My Department have sought proposals for coast protection schemes from the maritime local authorities, with a view to drawing up a national programme of coast protection works for the coming years.
