Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Special Beef Premium Scheme.

Michael Finucane

Ceist:

227 Mr. Finucane asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he will give details of (a) the number of applications received from County Limerick under the special beef premium scheme for each of the years 1986 to date; (b) the number (1) approved and (2) refused for each of the years and (c) the reason for the refusals; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The special beef premium scheme did not commence until 1987.

The number of applications that were approved for payment under the schemes in County Limerick for the years 1987, 1988, 1989 and 1990 were 4,154, 2,937, 3,347 and 3,539 respectively. Statistics were not kept for 1987 and 1988 on numbers refused but 103 were refused in 1989 and 156 in 1990. The refusals arose because the applicants failed to comply with the EC Regulations governing the scheme and each applicant refused premium was given the specific reason at the time.

The number of applications received for the scheme in Limerick for 1991 is approximately 3,800. The processing of these applications is taking place at present and it is not possible at this stage to indicate how many are likely to be approved.
