Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Estimates for Public Services.

Colm M. Hilliard

Ceist:

248 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the reason for (1) the 30 per cent increase in expenditure under Vote 42, subhead C, (2) the 44 per cent reduction in expenditure under Vote 42, subhead E, and (3) the 40 per cent reduction in expenditure under Vote 42, subhead I, in the Estimates for the Public Services 1992.

The following are the explanations requested by the Deputy in respect of Vote 42 — Energy — for 1992.

(1) Subhead C: The 30 per cent increase is required to provide the Geological Survey with the necessary computer and printing hardware for a basic capability in digital cartography.

(2) Subhead E: The 44 per cent reduction is due to the completion of a special project in energy conservation for which particular additional funds had been made available under the Government environmental action programme.

(3) Subhead I: The 40 per cent reduction is due to the fact that the private bog development scheme was terminated with effect from 13 October 1987 and the provision remains to meet declining outstanding commitments.

Ceist:

249 Mr. Hilliard asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the reason for the 58 per cent increase in expenditure under Vote 43, subhead C, in the Estimates for Public Services 1992 (Forestry).

The provisions included under subhead C of the 1992 Forestry Vote relate to grants for the promotion of forestry development.

The increased provision in 1992 reflects the planned expansion of private sector planting and related forestry measures, as outlined in the EC assisted Forestry Operational Programmes 1989-1993.
